Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee

June 21, 2008

A documentary created for the 48 Hour Film Project of Milwaukee, this film chronicles what has been called the "Mardi Gras of Midwest biking." Because the FTTM and the 48 Hour Film Project were on the same weekend, the Hairy Doughnut crew was torn between two loves, well three actually, beer, biking and film making. As luck would have it the Doughnut team drew "Sports" for their genre and a plan was hatched to make a documentary of the FTTM. The 48 Hour Film Project started Friday night, with all the teams meeting to receive their rule and instructions, followed by the official start of the 48 hour time limit. The Doughnut crew spent Friday prepping for the next days shot, which included printing out hundreds of waivers and building a camera rig for one of the mountain bikes. Saturday was spent following the 225 riders of the FTTM around Milwaukee getting as much footage as possible and making sure everyone signed their waiver. Saturday night and all day Sunday was spent editing the film which was completed just in time to get it turned in by the 7 pm deadline. The Project rules required the film be under 5 minutes, but because we had so much footage a longer version was also created that includes more FTTM action. This is the Doughnuts first documentary, but you can bet it won't be the last.
